The first time I met Chase Parker, I didn't exactly make a good impression. I was hiding in the bathroom hallway of a restaurant, leaving a message for my best friend to save me from my awful date. He overheard and told me I was a bitch, then proceeded to offer me some dating advice. So I told him to mind his own damn business―his own tall, gorgeous, full-of-himself damn business―and went back to my miserable date. When he walked by my table, he smirked, and I watched his arrogant, sexy ass walk back to his date. I couldn't help but sneak hidden glances at the condescending jerk on the other side of the room. Of course, he caught me on more than one occasion, and winked. When the gorgeous stranger and his equally hot date suddenly appeared at our table, I thought he was going to rat me out. But instead, he pretended we knew each other and joined us―telling elaborate, embarrassing stories about our fake childhood. My date suddenly went from boring to bizarrely exciting. When it was over and we parted ways, I thought about him more than I would ever admit, even though I knew I'd never see him again. I mean, what were the chances I'd run into him again in a city with eight million people? Then again... What were the chances a month later he'd wind up being my new sexy boss? As soon as I seen the cover and read the blurb, I immediately knew that it was something that I wanted to read. I knew from just the cover that I would be in love with Chase Parker.
I loved Chase and Reese from their initial encounter. Reese wasn’t particularly fond of Chase other than his good looks, but as the night progressed and while she was on a boring date from hell, the chemistry between Chase and her was evident once Chase and his date joined their table. I found myself enjoying the lies that Chase was sharing from an imaginary friendship between them. Their other encounters were also eventful, and it was evident from the title of the book that Chase would end up being Reese’s boss. I immediately fell in love with Chase. He was successful, charming, persistent, hot, and let’s not forget COCKY. He was determined to win over Reese and wasn’t going to give up until he achieved his goal. Reese was independent, impulsive, and was determined to be successful in her career. She was trying not to let the chemistry between them ruin her career. Would she eventually succumb to him? I absolutely loved everything about Bossman! I loved the banter between these two and Chase had me swooning throughout the whole book. The sexual tension was apparent and the sex scenes were astounding. With that being said, I also enjoyed the emotional, and heartbreaking parts of Bossman. Both of them had suffered in the past and their vulnerability made their connection stronger. Without a doubt, I’m looking forward to reading more from Vi Keeland! 5 Stars

He knows everything. She has all the damn answers. I’ve always been a free spirit. It’s my nature. I crave control, but with her it’s far more. He’s a power hungry climber. Her wealth could buy and sell me. It’s too much pressure being the center of anyone’s focus. She underestimates my desire for her, my need to please just her. When he’s vulnerable, it’s hard to deny him. Her crooked smile cripples me. He hides his demons, but I’m no fool. She thinks not committing to anyone makes her more honest. She’s wrong. A man like him deserves someone who can offer that kind of love. She promises nothing, yet I feel like a king when she says my name. I never let anyone possess me like he did. Not before. Not after. My greatest regret was compromising. I should have never held back. Still, when we’re apart I’m not myself. I miss the days when she was just down the hall. He’s better off without me, and it hurts. The ugly truth is I need her more than she needs me. Our relationship was born out of lust and curiosity. The lies we told ourselves killed it. Together, we found Nirvana. We learned it was all a mirage. I ruined him. I broke her heart. I keep coming back. I can’t let her go. KNOT is a contemporary romance and a complete standalone. It is the first spin-off from the best-selling Wake Series. You do not need to read BAIT, SAIL, or ANCHOR to enjoy this book in its entirety, but if you love angst you'll enjoy them, too. Buy linkReviewThis is probably one of the shortest reviews that I have ever written, but the “Queen of Angst” has literally left me speechless. I have had a love/hate relationship with M. Mabie since I first read Bait. The intensity in her writing made me want to scream and there were times that I needed to take a breather before my Kindle had no chance at survival! She somehow manages to make you fall in love with characters who are so complicated.
Reggie and Nora aren’t your typical characters. They were complete opposites, but yet had a connection that kept them wanting to continue to pursue a relationship. Nora was so damn complicated and at times I wanted to strangle her. If you’re looking for a complicated love story and are ready to be taken on an angsty ride, then this is one that you need to pick up! I can’t wait to read more from M. Mabie because I know she won’t disappoint. 5 Angsty Stars His name is Beat, and I should hate him. Bound, blindfolded and bruised, I'm tied in his basement, waiting for the men who stripped me from clothes and humanity to collect his debt to them. Me. His name is Nate and I should hate him, but I don't. I'm not supposed to know his real name, even worse, I'm not supposed to care. He is nothing to me but means to an end. The plan is simple: break free, collect the pieces of my broken soul, kill the bastards and run away. His name is Nathaniel Thomas Vela, and I've never seen his face, though I hear that it's beautiful. Behind the rugged and handsome exterior, there's a quiet murderer, a killer who thinks guns are for pussies and ends people with his bare hands. His name doesn't matter, neither does his face, but what does matter is my heart. And right now, sadly, it's his. Blood to Dust is a standalone, full-length novel. It contains graphic violence and adult situations some may find offensive. Shen, I knew immediately that I wanted to read Blood to Dust. I expected Blood to Dust to be a little darker, but nonetheless, I was instantly allured by it. L.J. Shen took me on a suspenseful, action packed journey and kept me interested throughout. Oh, and lets not forget that Blood to Dust also had some pretty hot scenes.
We are introduced to Prescott who is being held captive due to her crossing her ex and him seeking retaliation. She is taken to an undisclosed location by two men and she has a plan to hopefully break one of them in an attempt at freedom. I loved that Prescott’s character was not your typical heroine. She was strong, smart, and very determined even after everything she had gone through. Prescott was determined to learn about her captors and was hoping that one would help her escape captivity. I instantly fell in love with Beat/Nate. He was a felon, but I knew that there would be so much more to him than just that. He was one of the men that held Prescott in captivity, and he had specific orders on how to treat Prescott, but somehow little by little things became complicated. I loved the journey between Prescott & Nate. Both of them had pasts that haunted them and I think that’s why their connection was so strong. They really complemented each other and I was secretly hoping that things would work out for both of them. I loved that L.J. Shen gave us a glimpse of the things that each of them had endured, and how it gave us an understanding of why both of them were willing to help one another. Overall, I really loved Blood to Dust, with the only downfall that I wish it would have been a little darker. I’m looking forward to reading more from L.J. Shen. |
