About halfway through my shift, I saw the hostess seating a couple in my section. I couldnât see them clearly, but I watched with envy as the man guided the woman through the restaurant with his hand on her lower back. At their table, he pulled the chair out for his date to sit down. It was a simple gesture, one I had never been on the receiving end of. Brad had never taken me out on a proper date. In the beginning, I was blinded by his charisma and good looks so I accepted whatever time he was willing to spend with me. Once I was pregnant, he knew he didnât have to put forth any effort. But how nice would it be to feel cherished and like I was worth the effort?
After giving the couple another minute to get settled, I approached the table to take their drink order. The manâs back was to me as I walked over to them, but I could see how absolutely gorgeous his date was. Sure, we lived in Southern California, where it almost seemed like a prerequisite to be beautiful. This woman, though, was definitely a âtenâ on the hotness scale. Her blonde hair cascaded past her slender shoulders in large curls and her makeup was perfectly applied, highlighting her bright blue eyes. As I took the last step toward their table I saw her flash her date a seductive smile.
âWelcome to the Ocean View. My nameâsâ¦â I started but was interrupted by the man I had yet to fully see.
âSimone?â the man next to me questioned.
Recognizing the voice, I looked over, and was immediately met by a familiar pair of green eyes. Kyle OâNeill was here, sitting in my section with a model-perfect date.
I smiled at him briefly, almost forgetting I was there to take their order. âHi, Kyle,â I said, trying to go for casual, but my voice caught in my throat and it came out breathy and shaky. His date gave me a quick up and down look, then seemed to dismiss my very existence.
I had seen Kyle a few times over the last couple years. He and my brother-in-law, Trent, spent a lot of time together so I would occasionally run into him, usually at my in-lawâs house. He knew I worked here, but this was the first time Iâd ever seen him come to this restaurant. I suddenly felt nervous and could feel my face get a little warm.
Every time I saw him, I was in awe of his good looks. Tonight wasnât any different. He wore a pair of black slacks with a crisp, burgundy button-down shirt. The sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, giving him a somewhat casual look. His hair was gelled and styled perfectly.
âCourtney, this is my friendâs sister-in-law, Simone. Simone, this is Courtney,â Kyle said. âSheâs a lawyer, too.â
âOh, how nice,â I acknowledged, and mentally kicked myself for the lame response. The fact that Kyle took the time to introduce me to his date was a surprise. It also warmed something inside of me. The two of us had never talked about the night we unofficially met but he never seemed to hold a grudge. Everything I knew about him led me to believe he was a really nice guy. It also wasnât lost on me that he hadnât introduced Courtney as his girlfriend, but something more platonic, and Kyleâs date hadnât missed it either. She had given me a haughty look and promptly picked up her menu without saying anything to me.
âHowâve you been?â he asked.
My attention veered back to Kyle. He was smiling warmly up at me and his gaze was direct. Like I wasnât some no-nothing waitress or the woman who had ruined his sisterâs lifeâbut instead, someone who deserved as much attention as his date. He treated me like we were equals when we really werenât. It was flattering, if not a little disarming. Iâm sure he was like that with everyone, especially toward his dates. And I bet he had plenty of dates. He was probably like Trent, who dated a lot but didnât have a steady woman in his life.
âGood,â I finally answered, realizing I needed to stop thinking about Kyleâs relationship status and focus on my job instead. I turned toward Courtney and smiled politely at her. âItâs nice to meet you,â I offered, but moved on quickly so I could leave. I focused on my duties as their waitress and it helped with my nerves. I gave them my spiel about the specials and took out my pen and notepad. âCan I take your drink order?â
I spent the next bit of my shift glancing at Kyle and Courtney in between serving my other customers. I didnât know why I was so interested in what was happening at their table, but my focus was glued to the both of them, at their interaction and expressions. Kyle was attractive, but that wasnât all that had captured my attention. I couldnât help but notice the small things like the flirty way Courtney placed her hand on Kyleâs arm or the smile he would throw at her in the middle of their conversation. It made me long for something I didnât have.
A couple hours later, once I was done with my shift, I grabbed the meal I had ordered from the kitchen and headed out the back exit. I was a little less excited now about heading home to see Brad. I knew it was because I was jealous of the date I had spent an hour and a half observing. I had fantasies years ago that I would be with a man who was attentive like the way Kyle had been with Courtney. But I had come to terms with knowing that wasnât ever going to be my reality.

But when you're the best at what you do and have the hottest restaurant on the west coast, with enough Michelin stars to make Gordon Ramsay's head spin, you've earned the right to your confidence. When I give an instruction in the kitchen, it's not a suggestion--it's an order. So when a new chef thinks she can do things her way, and dares to say so to my face, even her sharp wit and gorgeous pouty lips don't make it okay. But I have to admit, she's got talent. She's creative in the kitchen and not even that double-breasted chef jacket can hide her perfect body. As I get to know her, I can't help wanting to know everything she thinks. I've never met a more talented chef. And I've never met a sassier and sexier woman in my life. There's only one way this push and pull can end. With her in my bed, begging for more. EXCERPT:She lets out a sigh of relief, but my cock hears something different in her gasping exhale. I bring my thumb slowly to a speck at the side of her mouth, fingers resting on the round perfection of her jawline. She stills under my touch and catches my gaze, time slowing with the deliberateness of my movements. I brush the speck, but don’t pull away. Instead, I bring my thumb back across those ever-pouted lips, tracing their dip and fullness, letting her feel the texture of hands rough and scarred from a lifetime in kitchens, our eyes locked together in a moment of anticipation, emotions raging like an angry sea against the dam of the distance between us. Her lips part slightly, I feel her shortening breath on my hand, and I push my thumb between those juicy, perfect lips, fingers pressing against the base of her ear. Her gentle gasp breaks the silence, before she closes those soft lips around my thumb, the sight of them pressing against my skin making my cock full against my pants. Her teeth gently squeezing my nail, tongue flickering as I push the finger inside the hot wetness of her mouth. My other hand already on her waist, I pull her toward me, press her lithe body up against mine. Those magnificent hips swaying and rubbing against mine, her weight shifting onto me, breasts heaving, nipples so hard now I can feel them through that sweater dress. “You’re fucking incredible,” I growl. Prelude to pulling her toward me, my finger in her mouth still, angling her head so I can taste the tenderness of her neck, run my sensitive tastebuds down the taut muscles, follow the path that leads me to the front of her chest. Quiet moans getting louder as I run my tongue down the softness of her cleavage, her dress my enemy now as I pull it down and bury my teeth in her breasts. “Oh God…” she moans. “Cole…” About the Author:JD Hawkins writes erotic romance with modern-classic alpha males and strong, independant women. The first time I met Caine West was in a bar. He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out. When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight—telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass. You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend--smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married. He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he'd done. Especially when that lazy smile graced his perfect face in response to my rant. Only it turned out, the man I'd just told off wasn't the right guy. Oops. My mistake. Embarrassed, I slunk out without an apology. I was never going to see the handsome stranger again anyway, right? That’s what I thought…until I walked into class the next morning. Well, hello Professor West, I’m your new teaching assistant. I’ll be working under you…figuratively speaking. Although the literal interpretation might not be such a bad thing—working under Professor West. This was going to be interesting… ADD TO GOODREADS

I was ecstatic when Beautiful Mistake showed up on my kindle! Then again, check out the amazing cover! Beautiful Mistake reeled me in from just the blurb itself. Once I started reading I definitely couldn't get enough of Professor Caine West. I was immediately hooked and once I was done I was left wanting more.
From the first encounter between Rachel and Caine I knew that that the chemistry they'd share would be more than either of them could resist. Rachel mistakenly thinks Caine is someone else and gives him a piece of her mind. Little does she expect to every cross paths with him again. After the initial encounter, the following day when she shows up to class, Rachel is astonished to find out that she will be Professor West's TA. Professor West has a reputation for not being the nicest person ever. She is up for the challenge to be able to prove him wrong and survive his class. As feisty as Rachel is, will she be able to put him in place? Rachel and Caine have an instant connection and the chemistry between them is intolerable. Both of them have a past that constantly haunts them. Under all that cockiness, Caine is attentive, thoughtful, and compassionate. He's too hard on himself and carries an abundance of guilt. I loved how Rachel was feisty and wasn't afraid of Professor West. Beautiful Mistake was so well written. Even before the reveal of the plot twist, my suspensions I loved that it brought out every emotion possible. Vi Keeland knows how to deliver characters that are hard to resist. I guarantee that you will, without a doubt fall in love with Professor West. I look forward to reading more from Vi. |
